Ruqyah (divine cure) is best done by a person for himself as this entails complete and direct reliance upon Allah, who is the Healer (Ash-Shāfi). It is performed by reciting the Qur’an, blowing into your hands and wiping your body, and with supplications and cures from the Sunnah that will remove the affliction, insha’Allāh. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “70,000 from my Ummah will enter Paradise without any reckoning—they are those who do not seek Ruqyah, nor do they see evil omens in things and they put their trust in their Lord.” (Bukhāri #6472) In a narration, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “My Lord has promised me that 70,000 of my Ummah will enter Paradise without accounting and without being punished. Along with each thousand, another 70,000 will enter and then three Handfuls of my Lord.” (Ibn Mājah #4286) Performing Ruqyah for yourself does not prevent you from being among these 70,000. Likewise, if a person makes Ruqyah upon someone else without them asking, it does not exclude them either-walhamdulillaah.
